What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science-based therapy focused on behavior and learning. ABA is a versatile therapy that is continually modified and adjusted to meet the needs of each individual learner. The goal of ABA is to increase desirable, appropriate behaviors and teach alternatives to problematic, unsafe behaviors.

How will ABA help my child?

ABA has been identified by the Surgeon General of the United States and the National Standards Project as the only effective treatment for Autism. ABA is based on 60 years of research, demonstrating its effectiveness in teaching language and communication skills, social skills, daily living skills, academic skills, and reducing interfering behaviors.

When should my child start ABA?

Current research indicates early intervention is critical to long term outcomes. It is recommended that a child should begin ABA treatment as soon as a diagnosis is established.

How long is a typical ABA session?

Each ABA treatment session is based on the child’s individualized treatment plan and goals. Treatment session lengths are determined by your child’s clinical team and based on what will help your child reach their goals. Most sessions last between 4-8 hours per day, up to 5 days per week.

What role does the parent play in ABA?

A parent’s involvement plays a critical role in ABA treatment. The more involved a parent is with their child’s treatment, the greater likelihood of reaching treatment goals. At Ebb & Flow parents can expect to attend trainings, observe and participate in treatment, and learn how to implement interventions outside of treatment times.
